Maharashtra: 118 sugar mills end crushing, production at 103.44 LMT

According to the official data released by the office of the sugar commissioner, sugar mills across the state of Maharashtra have crushed 987.43 LMT of cane till 10th April 2021 and produced 103.44 LMT of sugar with an average recovery of 10.48%. So far 118 sugar mills have ended the operations. 71 mills are yet running crushing operations across the state.

Experts are optimistic about the production peaking approximately to 106 LMT. In the previous season, the state produced 61.69 LMT of sugar.

Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) in their second advance estimates exhibited Indian sugar production to increase by 10.2% y-o-y to 30.2 million tonnes during the sugar season (October-September) 2020-21 on account of higher production in Maharashtra and Karnataka. This estimate excludes sugar diversion of about 2 million tonnes towards ethanol production during the year.
