Maharashtra: Millers will now have to sign separate agreement with sugarcane farmers

Pune: The Maharashtra sugar commissonerate has issued a notification stating that from the new cane crushing season 2020-21, the sugar mills in the state will have to sign separate agreements with the cane farmers regarding the registration of cane variety, supply and payments (Fair and Rumenerative price). The mills earlier used to sign a single agreement with farmers.

As per the notification, separate agreements have to be signed between the buyer (sugar mill) and the seller (farmers).

Sugarcane arrears have remained the major issue in Maharashtra. In this season overall 143 sugar mills participated in the crushing season. on a report of FRP payment, Sugar commissioner Saurabh Rao had earlier stated that Government would serve notices to sugar factories if they did not make payment as per FRP. Most of the factories are in the process of making payment as per FRP. We will act if we get any complaint.
