Market opens lower on heightened US-Iran tensions

Mumbai: Equity benchmark BSE Sensex slumped in the opening session on Wednesday as tensions in the middle-east escalated after Iran fired missiles at US military bases in Iraq.

Sensex today on January 8 was trading 193.98 points lower at 40,675.49. Similarly Nifty was trading 59.60 points down at 11,993.35.

Similarly, at 10:15 am, Sensex was trading at 40,711.11 points, and Nifty was trading at 11,995.60 points.

TCS, Tech Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Auto and Reliance Industries were the top gainer in the Sensex pack. L&T Bank, Kotak Bank, HDFC Bank, SBI, Axis Bank, NTPC and Titan. were among the top losers today.

On the currency front, the rupee depreciated 19 paise to 72.01 against the US dollar in morning session.
