Bagaha (Bihar): As election is around the corner, the political parties don’t want to leave any stone unturned to woo the sugarcane farmers, who are in distress. To attract them, politicians are extending support to farmers. Bagaha MLA R S Pandey came into rescue for cane farmers and warned to demonstrate if their arrears have not been paid.
He met the government officials and demanded to clear the pending arrears of cane farmers. Pandey said if such condition prevails then he will sit on agitation along with his supporters.
Even after more than two months of sugarcane crushing commenced, many mills have not yet paid the first installment to the cane growers. Pandey said that the government would have to take an immediate decision on this pressing issue related to public interest.
Millers are citing their inability to pay farmers the pending sugarcane amount, due to falling prices of sugar in the domestic market.
“During the meeting with the DM on the issue of sugarcane payment it had been assured that soon this problem would be solved“ he further added.
