Monsoon showers lash Maharashtra districts

Aurangabad, Jun 24 (UNI) Monsoon rain lashed Aurangabad, Beed, Jalna, Osmanabad and Parbhani districts on Sunday morning, bringing respite to the drought-hit areas in Maharashtra.

Met reports stated that heavy monsoon showers lashed eight districts of the state for about 45 minutes on Saturday, registering up to 50 mm of rainfall. Meanwhile, other districts such as Hingoli, Nanded and Latur received no major rainfall at all.

Incidents of water logging in low-lying areas and power failure for several hours due to lightning was reported on Saturday night.

The absence of pre-monsoon shower in the past three weeks had left the farmers of drought-affected regions in a worrisome state. However, the agriculture department here has advised farmers to wait for more rainfall for sowing the seeds.

During past 24 hours, 7.54 mm average rainfall was recorded in the region. Aurangabad district registered highest 27.47 mm average rainfall, Jalna 12.84 mm, Osmanabad 8 mm, Beed 4 mm and Parbhani 3 mm.
