More threat to sugarcane crop in Brazil

Sao Paulo: After damage due to frost last week, the sugarcane crops in Brazil will be further affected due to the new polar air mass that will move over the country’s agricultural areas this week.

According to the news report published in wincountry.com, this is the third cold wave that will impact the crops in Brazil this winter, a rare situation in the country not seen in decades. Brazil has already witnessed the worst drought in 90 years.

According to the forecasters, the air mass will reach southern Brazil by Wednesday.

Frost had already damaged some sugarcane farms by 35%, said Marx Spectrum, Commodities broker. The sugar production in Brazil is likely to come down, it said.
