MPCP finds sugar, textile industries as most polluting

Mumbai: The data published by Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) states that the sugar and textile mills are found as most polluting. MPCB’s star rating programme for industries has found 43 sugar industries and distilleries under “two star” and “one star” categories.

The star system indicates the intensity of pollution. One star indicates non-compliance, and five stars indicate compliance. The industries related to metal and chemical have been also found to be polluting in the state.

According to the news reports, the MPCB’s star rating programme for industries has found about 67 per cent of textile industries to be polluting. The state government is working towards many initiatives to combat industrial pollution.
