Nepal: Farmers yet to receive cane dues worth Rs 481 million

Kathmandu: Sugarcane farmers from Nepal are yet to receive cane arrears worth Rs 481 million pending with four sugar mills. The mills have been identified as Lumbini Sugar mill, Indira Sugar mill, Annapurna sugar mill and Shree Ram sugar mill.

Sugarcane farmers claim that the sugar mills are delaying in clearing the sugarcane arrears. The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supplies stated that the Shree Ram sugar mill owes Rs 350 million dues to the cane farmers, Annapurna mil owes Rs 170 million, Indira sugar mill owes Rs 47 crore and Lumbini sugar mill owes Rs 84.1 million.

Urmila KC, assistant spokesperson of the ministry said, that the government is taking regular follow up of the pending dues and ordered mills to clear the dues.

The mills are finding it difficult to sell their sugar stocks, due to which they failed to clear the arrears.
