Nepal: Shreeram sugar mills yet to commence operation

Rautahat: The sugarcane farmers from Rautahat are hoping that the Shreeram Sugar mill will resume operation and will take their cane for crushing.

The mill facing huge losses is on the verge of closure. The mill is in a loss for the last 16 years, and its closure will make 400 staffers jobless. The mill is yet to pay Rs 40 crore cane arrears from last season. The mill was inaugurated by then prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala in 1992.

A local sugarcane farmer said that the farmers are confused as the mill has not yet issued any notice this season. According to the locals, Golchha.

The cane farmers are worried about their sugarcane as where they will take cane for crushing. Ashok Yadav, district chairman of Sugarcane Production Union, said that he was in touch with the concerned authorities to release the pending cane dues and initiatives were taken for operation of the mill.
