Nifty ends at record closing high; Sensex surges 321 points

Mumbai: Indian markets ended sharply higher today, with Nifty closing at a record high. Sensex closed on January 2, 2020, at 320.62 points higher at 41,626.64. Similarly, Nifty ended 99.70 points up at 12,282.20.

Tata Motors, UltraTech Cement, Tata Steel, Grasim Industries and Vedanta were among the top gainers today on Nifty. While Eicher Motors, Bajaj Auto, BPCL, Cipla and Dr Reddys Labs were among the top losers today.

In the previous season, Sensex closed on January 1, 2019, at 52 points up at 41,306 while the Nifty 50 edged higher by 21 points at 12,190.

The rupee is trading at 71.345 against the dollar.
