No decision yet on Sanjivani sugar factory

Panjim, Goa: The fate of the Sanjivani sugar factory is still unclear as the meeting between Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and farmers failed to come up with any conclusion. CM Sawant assured the farmers to look into the problems related to the sugar mill.

Speaking with media persons, CM said, “Sugarcane farmers have put across their demands which the government is looking into. No, any decision has been taken yet regarding Sanjivani sugar factory. The factory is closed and it is not feasible to run it under losses at a given situation.”

The factory located at Dharbandora is the only sugar factory in the state. It is reeling under financial stress due to maintenance and old machinery problems. The repair work of the factory usually starts after Ganesh Chaturthi but this year no work has begun so far. In last season, the mill failed to operate and the government had sent state’s cane to the sugar mill in Karnataka for crushing.
