NSI gets approval from govt to start new short duration course on ‘Sugar Refinery Operations’

National Sugar Institute, Kanpur got approval from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution for starting a new short duration course on “Sugar Refinery Operations”. The specially designed three month’s duration course would be first of its kind in any of the sugar institute globally.

Prof. Narendra Mohan, Director informed that due to change in common consumer preferences about quality products and requirement of superior quality Sulphur-less sugar by the industrial users, the requirement of refined sugar has grown during the last few years. Now, we have about 80 sugar units in the country producing such sugar but availability of supervisory staff trained specifically about unit operations in sugar refinery has been an issue. Hence we considered starting this course which is planned to train fresh science graduates as well as in-service personnel of sugar industry.

The course shall be conducted during May-July when sugar factories are not operated and hence it would be possible for personnel from sugar industry to take up this course. Side by side, during this period as most of the infrastructural facilities at the institute are not completely utilized, the same shall be used. We already have a sugar refinery in the Experimental Sugar Factory of the institute to provide practical exposure, said director.

We are going to issue the admission notice for this particular course by the end of February 2024 said Shri Ashok Kumar Garg, Education In-charge.
