Pakistan exempts sales tax on import of sugar

Islamabad, Pakistan: Pakistan government has exempted the 17 per cent sales tax on the import of 3,00,000 tonnes of sugar to keep the prices of sugar low in the country.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said sales and income taxes on the import of 300,000 tons of white sugar by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) had been withdrawn.

Considering the shortage of sugar in the domestic market and hike in the sugar rates, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet had allowed the import of 3,00,000 tonne sugar.
