Pakistan: Hoarded sugar worth Rs 150 million seized

Lahore: The officials raided and seized 22,000 bags of sugar worth Rs 150 million from Muridke that was stored in a godown near Lahore, reports Thenews.

The prices of sugar in the domestic market have increased by around Rs 45 per kg in a week taking it to Rs 150 per kg. In another raid, the food department and district administration seized about 6,000 sacks of sugar worth Rs 40 million hidden in the rice bags in a bid to smuggle it to the Afghanistan market.

Secretary, Food, has warned of strict action against smugglers and hoarders that try to store sugar illegally. He also warned about action against those trying to raise the price of sugar to Rs 150 per kg in the country.
