Pakistan: USC denies smuggling sugar to Afghanistan

The Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has rejected the allegations that it has smuggled sugar to Afghanistan.

There were reports that around 250,000 metric tonnes of sugar was smuggled to Afghanistan but the USC has termed them baseless stating that the quantity of sugar claimed is not available in the utility stores.

Pakistan is importing sugar to cater the domestic demand and selling the sugar in the domestic market at a subsidized rate.

Around 33,000 tonnes of sugar carried in a vessel imported by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has arrived at Karachi Port Trust.
