Guwahati, Assam: The state government is planning to provide two kg of sugar free of cost to the family of each tea worker per month. The State Food and Civil Supplies department is working on the proposal.
The decision was taken earlier but the department was not able to implement it due to some issues related to the procurement of sugar. The aim of the drive is to change workers’ habit of consuming salt along with tea which creates problems for women during pregnancy.
The Department has asked the deputy commissioners of respective districts to provide the details about the availability of the sugar in the market and the feasibility to procure it and supply it to the tea workers’ families.
