Punjab government may hike sugarcane price

Chandigarh: For the new crushing season, the Punjab government may the sugarcane price by Rs 20-Rs 30 per quintal, reports Tribune India.

AAP had promised the farmers before the election to hike the cane price to Rs 380 per quintal if voted to power. At present, the SAP of sugarcane in the state is Rs 345-Rs 360 per quintal.

The farmers agitating for pending cane dues have also demanded to hike SAP to Rs 390-Rs 400 per quintal.

The official announcement will be made one by the chief minister Bhagwant Mann, said Agriculture Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal.

The Punjab Private Sugar Mills Association has urged the CM not to hike SAP as the millers are not in a position to pay any price above the FRP of Rs 305 per quintal at a 10.25% recovery.
