Rajaram Sugar mill to go for polls on April 23

Kolhapur: Elections for the Rajaram Cooperative Sugar Mill in Kasba Bawda of the city will be held on April 23 to elect 21 members of the governing body, reports The Times of India.

The contest is between two major factions, one belonging to Satej Patil of the Congress and another to Mahadevrao Mahadik of the BJP.

The mill located under the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation limits supplies of sugar to the six tehsils in the district and has political influence in the district. The mill crushes four lakh tonnes of cane every year.

The elections for the mill were due in April 2020 but have been postponed several times due to legal issues. As many as 13,538 farmers registered with the mill will cast their votes for the election.
