Raju Shetti asks sugar mills to clear pending cane dues

Kolhapur, Maharashtra: Raising the issue of pending cane arrears, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) chief Raju Shetti has asked sugar millers to clear the dues before starting the new crushing season. Shetti has threatened mills that they won’t be allowed to take cane for crushing until they clear all pending cane dues.

According to the media report, he also said, his organization will organize the yearly sugarcane conference and the dates for the same will be announced soon. The sugarcane conference organized by SSS is one of the major annual events for the cane farmers where they decide the future course of action and the rates to be given by sugar mills.

“We will not allow the sugar mills to operate this year till they clear the pending cane arrears. We are also against the payment of the FRP in parts. We had raised the issue last year also and will raise it again this year again during our sugarcane conference. We will compel sugar mills to pay the FRP at one go and not in instalments,” Shetti further added.
