SAIL plans to set up India’s first gas-to-ethanol plant

New Delhi: SAIL is entering into ethanol production and planning to set up India’s first gas to ethanol plant at its ferro alloy plant in Chandrapur, Maharashtra with the help of the central government.

According to the news agency PTI, Mukesh Kumar, the Director of Steel Research & Technology Mission of India (SRTMI) said, this will boost the government’s aim to lower the crude oil import besides addressing the issue of carbon emissions.”

SAIL is setting up the gas-to-ethanol plant with the help of SRTMI. As per PTI, It would cost around Rs 400 crore for SAIL to set up the plant, of which 20 per cent “viable gas funding” or aid will be provided by the government under the National Policy on BioFuels 2018.
