Namakkal: Salem Cooperative Sugar Mills Limited will crush around 1.60 lakh tonnes of sugarcane this season at its Mohanur unit as the area under cane cultivation has increased, said Minister for Tourism M. Mathiventhan, reports The Hindu.
He was speaking on the occasion of a programme organised on Thursday to distribute appointment orders to the 38 heirs whose family members had died during duty at the mill in the last 30 years.
Addressing the gathering, he said the mill during the 2020-21 season had crushed 1.14 lakh tonnes of sugarcane. The area under cane cultivation has been increased this season to 4075.30 acres and we are expecting to crush 1.60 lakh tonnes of sugarcane.
