Saraswati sugar mill to commence sugarcane crushing from November 26

Yamunanagar: Saraswati sugar mill in Haryana will commence cane crushing from November 26. The crushing will help around 25,000 farmers from the district who are awaiting to clear their fields to sow wheat for Rabi season.

The mill administration aims to crush 160 million quintal sugarcane. The sugarcane cultivation area has come down from 96,000 acres last year to 85,000 acres this year.

Sugarcane farmers claim sugarcane price what they get is not sufficient; therefore, they are demanding hike in sugarcane price. Bhartiya Kisan Union had earlier demanded to increase the cane purchase price to Rs 400 per quintal. But, yet the government has not taken any decision so far.

The rate of an early variety of cane was Rs 340 per quintal in Haryana last year. The price of mid-variety was Rs 335, and the rate of late variety was Rs 330 per quintal.

DP Singh, senior vice-president (cane) of Saraswati Sugar Mill said that mill planned to start crushing operation in on November 26.
