Satara: Sugarcane crushing in final phase

Satara, Maharashtra: Though the daily life has been affected due to Coronavirus, the sugar mills in the Satara district are busy in crushing cane as the season is in its end phase.

As per data from Maharashtra Sugar Commissionerate, till 15th March 2020, 14 sugar mills in the district have produced 73,78,820 quintal sugar by crushing 62,68,530 metric tonne cane with the recovery rate of 11.77 per cent.

Speaking about the state then overall 56 sugar mills in the state have closed their operations. Which include 17 mills in Aurangabad, 9 mills in Ahmednagar, 5 mills in Pune, 9 mills in Solapur, 8 mills in Kolhapur, 6 mills in Nanded and 2 mills in Amravati district. Till 15th March, 501.05 lakh tonnes sugarcane was crushed and mills produced 55.84 lakh tonnes of sugar with a recovery rate of 11.15 per cent.

Many sugar mills in Maharashtra are likely to shut crushing operations soon. The current season has been affected due to the non-availability of sugarcane.
