Season 2023-24: 151 sugar mills end sugarcane crushing operations

The sugarcane crushing season is in its final phase in Maharashtra, with 151 sugar mills having concluded operations till April 01, compared to 200 mills during the same period in the previous season, according to data from the Sugar Commissionerate. Sugar production in the state has reached more than 107 lakh metric tonnes (LMT), slightly higher compared to the previous season during the same period.

Of the 207 sugar mills that participated in crushing this season, including 103 cooperative and 104 private mills, a total of 1050.75 lakh tonnes of sugarcane have been crushed so far, resulting in the production of 1074.81 lakh quintals (107.48 lakh tonnes) of sugar.

In comparison, 211 mills had crushed 1052.67 lakh tonnes of sugarcane and produced 1050.46 lakh quintals (105.04 lakh tonnes) of sugar in the previous season during the same period.

Sugar recovery has also witnessed a marginal increase this season, standing at 10.23 per cent as of April 01, compared to 9.98 per cent last year.

So far, 32 sugar mills in the Kolhapur region, 43 in the Solapur region, 19 in the Pune region, 15 in the Ahmednagar region, 17 in the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar region, 22 in the Nanded region, and 3 in the Amarawati region have concluded their crushing seasons.
