Season 2023-24: Latest sugar production updates by ISMA

The sugarcane crushing season has gained momentum in India, although sugar production is still lower compared to the previous season. According to data released by Indian Sugar & Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA), sugar production till 31st December, 2023 in the current 2023-24 Sugar Season reached 111.80 lakh tonnes, against 121.20 lakh tonnes produced last year on the corresponding date.

Notably, this year sugar factories in Maharashtra and Karnataka started around 10 – 15 days later as compared to last year and initial pace of harvest was slow until mid – November. Currently, crushing season is in full swing across the country.

Yesterday, data released by National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (NFCSF), showed that as of December 31, 2023, crushing for the 2023-24 season has commenced in 511 sugar mills across the country, with a total of 1222.64 lakh tonnes of sugarcane crushed, resulting in a production of 112.10 lakh tonnes of sugar.
