Season 2023-24: Three sugar mills in Maharashtra close crushing operations

Sugar mills in Maharashtra started closing their crushing season for 2023-24. According to data from the Sugar Commissionerate, as of February 4, 2024, three mills have closed, compared to five at the same time last season.

One mill each in Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, and Nanded divisions have stopped crushing.

A total of 207 sugar mills participated in the crushing this season, including 103 cooperative and 104 private mills. So far, 716.03 lakh tonnes of sugarcane have been crushed, resulting in the production of 692.52 lakh quintals (69.25 lakh tonnes) of sugar. The average sugar recovery in the state is currently 9.67 per cent.

Last season, 208 mills were operational at this time and had crushed 797.2 lakh tonnes of sugarcane to produce 778.2 lakh quintals of sugar.
