Sensex down 40 points ahead of CPI, IIP

Mumbai: Ahead of the release of key data points, Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Index of industrial production (IIP), BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty started on a choppy note on July 12.

The BSE Sensex was trading at 39.91 points lower at 38,783.20 at 9.39 am. Similarly Nifty fell 4.60 points to 11,578.30.

Top losers in the Sensex pack included Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, ITC, L&T, HDFC Bank, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Finance, PowerGrid and Axis Bank falling up to 1.46 per cent.

Sun Pharma, NTPC, Yes Bank, RIL, Tata Steel, TechM and HDFC were among the top gainers, rising up to 1.53 per cent.

Yes Bank, HCL Tech, TechM, Infosys and Asian Paints were among the top gainers, rising up to 1.21 per cent.

On the currency front, the Indian rupee fell 7 paise to 68.51 against the US dollar.

The global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were trading 0.65 per cent higher at 66.95 per barrel.
