Sensex ends 228 points higher; Nifty above 10,800

Mumbai: Sensex close on 23rd August 2019 ended 228.23 points higher at 36,701.16. Similarly, NSE Nifty ended 88 points up at 10,829.35.

VEDL, YES Bank, ONGC, M&M and Tata Motors were among the top gainers today.

Top losers in the Sensex pack IndusInd Bank, ITC, ICICI Bank and Power Grid.

On the currency front, the Indian rupee was trading 33 paise lower at 71.88 against the US dollar.

The global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were trading 0.65 per cent higher to USD 60.69 per barrel.

The Indian rupee has recovered on August 23 after hitting the lowest level since December 2018.

On Friday evening Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will hold a press briefing. SO there are speculations that government would announce steps to revive economic growth.
