Sensex, Nifty rise for second day

Domestic equity benchmarks BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty closed at another record highs as investors continued to cheer the decisive mandate for the Narendra Modi’s BJP in the national election.

The S&P BSE Sensex settled 249 points, or 0.6 per cent, higher at 39,683, with Tata Steel, YES Bank, NTPC, Larsen & Toubro, and Axis Bank among the top gainers. Out of the 30 BSE constituents, 12 ended in the red.

The broader Nifty 50 broke past the 11,900-mark to end the day at 11,925, up 81 points, or 0.68 per cent. The gauge hit an intra-day high of 39,821.94 and a low of 39,353.16.

Tata Steel, Yes Bank, NTPC, IOC and L&T were the top gainers on the Nifty, while Zee Entertainment, IndusInd Bank, Reliance Industries, Tech Mahindra and Bharti Airtel were the major losers.
