Sri Lanka to take steps to provide sugar at concessional price

Colombo: Government will take steps to provide sugar at an affordable rate to people with the help of Lanka Sugar Company through Sathosa (CWE), said state minister Janaka Wakkumbara.

According to the media report, the minister said, “Sugar is sold at Rs 210 per kg in the market and we will provide sugar to people at Rs 125 per kg no matter how high the price in the market is.”

“We will provide sugar to CWE through Lanka Sugar Company and the people can get sugar at concessional rates. The intervention of the government is necessary to ensure that people get sugar at affordable rates,” he further added.
