Stable sugar prices help Mexico sugarcane farmers earn good profit in 2020

The sugarcane farmers in Mexico have earned good profit due to stable sugar prices in the year 2020. Arturo Herviz Reyes, president of sugarcane growers association CENOCI said, the 50 mills located in the five states produced 5.3 million tonnes of sugar by crushing 783,258 hectares of sugarcane crops in the country.

The COVID-19 pandemic did not impact the sugarcane harvesting or production activities this year, he said.

The 35.5% of the national production comes from mills located in 80 cities in Veracruz State.

“We are expecting better harvest for the next year that will help farmers earn more profit than this year,” Reyes further added.
