Strict action to be taken against sugar mills if found involved in malpractices

Lucknow: Sugarcane farmers in Uttar Pradesh claim fraud in the cane supply system; therefore, the state administration is taking various measures to eliminate malpractices.

In order to provide transparent convenient and reliable sugarcane supply system to farmers, the Commissioner Cane and Sugar, Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy, exercising the powers conferred upon him under Rule-19 and 29 of the U.P. Sugarcane (Supply and Purchase Regulation ) Rules, 1954, has given powers of inspection of the cane purchase centres for crushing season 2019-20 to various hon’ble public representatives, regional and head quarter officials, chairmen and vice chairmen of Cane Development Societies etc. All the inspection authorities will have the right of inspection of weighment process, checking weighing scales, weights and slips on which cane weight and price is recorded.

In order of power given by commissioner, Cane and Sugar the inspecting authorities will able to inspect the cane purchasing centres being run by their regional sugar mills. This, on the one hand, will be effective in resolving the complaints of farmers related to their cane weight and marking of price etc, and, on the other hand, action will be taken against the employee and mills found involved in malpractices. This will bring transparency in the inspection of purchasing centre and cane supply system and will strengthen the confidence of farmers about the system along with checking the menace of under weighment at cane purchasing centers.
