Sugar mill faces action over pending cane dues

Phagwara: Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal has taken a strict action by initiating the process to attach the property of the Golden Sandhar Sugar Mill Limited in Phagwara across the state due to non payment of the cane arrears. The Deputy Commissioner has written to all other 22 DCs in the regard, reports Tribune India.

Apart from writing to the 22 DCs, he has also informed about the same to Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture, the Commissioner, Jalandhar Division and Cane Commissioner, Mohali.

The sugar mill had to pay Rs 122.39 crore to the cane farmers, and by May 23 it had cleared Rs 86.64 crore. The mill is yet to pay Rs 35.75 crore.

As per the rule, the mill should clear cane bills to farmers within 14 days of crop procurement else the farmers should get 15% interest on the payment, he said.
