Sugar mills get ultimatum to clear cane dues

Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh: DM Selva Kumari has given an ultimatum to sugar mills to clear the cane dues by August 10.

According to the news report published in Amarujala.com, sugar mills in the district owe arrears of Rs 547 crore.

DM convened a meeting of sugar mills representatives and cane department officials at the district collectorate to discuss the pending cane dues issue. During the meeting, district cane officer R D Dwivedi said that eight sugar mills from the district have crushed cane of around Rs 3,246 crore. The mills have so far paid Rs 2,698 crore to the farmers and Rs 547 crore is yet pending with sugar mills.

DM has asked the sugar mills to clear the pending cane dues by August 10. She also instructed sugar mills to ensure that they complete the maintenance work before October 15 ahead of the upcoming crushing season.
