Sugar mills in Pakistan complete 80 per cent of cane crushing

Islamabad: According to the officials, the sugar mills in the country have crushed 80% of the cane cultivated by the farmers.

The Ministry of industries and production officials told the National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC) that the mills have completed around 80% of the cane crushing. This would ensure the availability of sufficient stocks to cater to domestic demand.

The industries ministry has asked the provincial governments to provide the details regarding the requirement of sugar in future so that it would be easy to plan accordingly.

The sugar production has shown an upward trend despite the uncertainty in cane crushing. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the sugar production surged 30.2% year on year in December.
