Sugar mill in Punjab get December 1 deadline

Jalandhar: Like Uttar Pradesh, sugarcane arrears has remained a big issue in Punjab too. Therefore sugarcane farmers have decided to launch the demonstration. Sugarcane farmers under the banner of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee will launch an agitation in front of Buttar Sugar Mill on December 1 if sugarcane arrears are not paid before the deadline. Cane growers also alleged that they have barred from giving sugarcane to local sugar mills.

Farmers are also protesting against filing FIR over burning stubble and harassment by arhtiyas. Cane growers said if their demands were still not met, they would hold a state-wide chakka jam on railway tracks on December 3.

Satnam Singh Pannu, leader of the organisation, said, “We will launch massive agitation if the government fails to pay pending cane arrears”.

Also, sugarcane farmers in the state demanding to hike the State advised price (SAP) of sugarcane for a new season. They claim rate what they get for sugarcane is not sufficient.
