Alwar: Closed down of sugar mills and cane arrears have always remained talking point for Uttar Pradesh politics. As Lok Sabha election is going on, politics over closed sugar mills has gained traction once again.

Addressing an election meeting in Alwar on Sunday UP Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who also addressed the gathering, assured the re-opening of closed sugar mills. He said, “All the closed down sugar mills in the region would be re-started and those sold illegally during the Mayawati regime would be taken back.”

Earlier Yogi had slammed previous SP, BSP led-governments and accused them of auctioning sugar mills at throwaway prices making cane farmers bankrupt.

The FIR had been lodged in connection with the sale of seven sugar mills during Mayawati regime, and now the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is set to probe alleged irregularities in it.
