Sugar output in Germany likely to increase

Hamburg: Sugar output in Germany is likely to increase to 4.38 million tonnes this season from 4.10 million tonnes last season, said WVZ, sugar industry association from Germany in its first harvest forecast.

The area under sugar beet has been increased in Germany from 350,000 hectares last season to 354,000 hectares this season, according to the association. The average crop yield is expected to increase from 73.3 tonnes per hectare last season to 77.8 tonnes per hectare and the average beet sugar content is estimated to increase from 17.9% last season to 18% this season.

The sugar factories are likely to process 27.56 million tonnes of beets this season as against 25.72 million tonnes of beet last season.
