Sugar output in Maharashtra crosses 105 lakh tonne

Pune: Sugar output in Maharashtra has crossed 105 lakh tonne in the ongoing season. The cane crushing season is in the final phase and till April 22, 156 sugar mills have closed their operations.

According to the sugar commissionerate, a total of 190 sugar mills participated in the cane crushing operations this season. These mills have produced 1050.91 lakh quintal sugar (105.09 lakh tonne) by crushing 1002.81 lakh tonne cane with a recovery rate of 10.48 per cent.

As per the report of the sugar commissionerate, a total of 43 sugar mills in the Solapur division have closed their operations. From the Kolhapur division, 37 mills have stopped crushing operations. Total 23 mills from Nanded, 25 from Pune, 14 from Ahmednagar, 10 from Aurangabad and 2 each from Amaravati and Nagpur have closed their crushing operations.
