Sugar prices in Bangladesh increased by Tk 6 per kg

Accepting the demand made by the businesses, the Bangladesh government has increased the prices of sugar by Tk 6 per kg taking it to Tk 90 per kg.

The price of packaged sugar has been increased from Tk 89 to Tk 95 as per the announcement made by the commerce ministry.

The government on September 22 had set the price of unpackaged refined sugar at Tk 84 per kg and the price of packaged sugar was Tk 89 per kg for the local market and it was supposed to implement the new price from September 25.

The prices were set by the commerce ministry based on the recommendations made by the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission. The BTTC had suggested lowering the price of unpackaged refined sugar to Tk 84 per kg from Tk 90 per kg and packaged sugar to Tk 89 per kg from Tk 95 per kg.

The traders opposed this and the Bangladesh Sugar Refiners Association sent a letter to the commerce ministry against this.
