Sugarcane crushing at Srirama sugar mill to start in September

Chunchanakatte: Sugarcane crushing operations will begin at the Srirama Co-operative Sugar Mill located at Chunchanakatte in September, reports Star of Mysore

The efforts of K. R. Nagar MLA S.R. Mahesh and the support of the government are helping the mill to start operations in the first week of September.

According to the media report, the mill had stopped operations ten years ago and MLA S.R. Ramesh was trying his best to revive it. Several attempts were made to lease mill but it was not successful as there were no takers.. But he continued his efforts and put pressure on the state government to invite tenders again for the reopening of mill. The State responded positively and in the re-tender process, Nirani Sugars came forward to reopen the mill and obtained the contract.

The Nirani Sugars, after obtaining the contract, took immediate steps to repair defunct machines and ensured that the mill would soon start operations.

The company is planning to increase crushing capacity from the existing 2000 tonnes per day to 2,500 tonnes after starting the cane crushing process.
