Sugarcane crushing season starts in Uttar Pradesh

Bijnor: Sugarcane crushing season in Uttar Pradesh began after Sugarcane minister Chaudhary Lakshmi Narayan inaugurated the Bundki Dwarikesh Sugar Mill, reports The Times of India.

On the first day of operations of the mill, the minister honoured the farmers carrying cane to the mill and garlanded the bulls carrying carts laden with crop.

“The sugarcane production in UP has increased which has increased the state’s contribution from 28% to 40%. The policies of the Union, as well as state government, have boosted ethanol production that has helped the mills to clear cane bills of farmers on time,” minister said.

“The area under cane cultivation in the state is spread across over 27 lakh hectares and the state has been divided into three divisions namely Western, Central and Eastern,”he added.

As many as 120 sugar mills are ready to start operations in the state. The minister has asked the mill managers to assist farmers during the crushing season.
