Sugarcane cultivation area goes up in Uttar Pradesh

Pilibhit (Uttar Pradesh): Even though sugarcane farmers are yet to receive 100 per cent cane payment, the area under cane cultivation in Uttar Pradesh has increased, reports The Times of India.

As per the news report, the official records of state sugarcane department (till June 30) shows an expansion of over 50,000 hectares compared to last year. The department has stated that the productivity of the crop has increased to 823 quintals per hectare this year compared to 815 quintals per hectare last year.

The sugarcane department’s efforts to make available high-yielding breeder seed of sugarcane, fertilizers, pesticides, and other inputs to the farmers plus assisting them to protect their crops from diseases have helped farmers attract cane cultivation, said V K Shukla, the additional cane commissioner.
