Sugarcane-cutting owners stage protest over various demands

Pune: Sugarcane-cutting owners have launched an agitation for their several demands including pending subsidy from 2017, reports Uni India.

The agitators have launched a protest at Sakhar Sankul in Pune under the banner of the Maharashtra State Sugarcane Cutting Machine Owners demanding the setting up of an arbitrator for sugarcane cutting machine owners and an increase in the amount of Rs 700 for sugarcane cutting machines.

As many as 800 sugarcane-cutting machine owners from all over Maharashtra including Kolhapur, Satara, Nanded, Solapur, Latur and Beed have participated in the agitation.

Amolraje Jadhav, secretary of the organisation, threatened that if the government fails to clear the pending subsidy, the machine owners across the state will start operations outside the office of the district magistrate in every district of the state.

We have already handed over a letter in this regard to the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Cooperation Minister, Leader of Opposition and Cooperation Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad, he said.

Several times we have raised the voice demanding clearance of pending grant of these 868 machines but the government has not taken the matter seriously, said Jadhav.
