Sugarcane department asks mills to clear cane dues

Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane department has issued strict warning to the sugar mills to clear pending cane arrears within two weeks else their warehouses will be sealed. According to the news report published in Dainik Jagaran, sugarcane department has issued notices to Khadda, Ramkola, Kaptanganj, Sevarhi and Dhahda sugar mills in this regard.

As per news report, District sugarcane officer Ved Parkash Singh said, “We have issued notices to the sugar mills and given them a deadline of two weeks to clear pending arrears. We will take strict action against the mills if they fail to clear cane dues.”

The lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of coronavirus pandemic has severely affected several sectors including sugar. The demand for sugar has been reduced as the industries like cold drinks, ice cream, bakeries and sweet shops are shut due to lockdown. Sugar mills are passing through a challenging time.  As they are unable to sell the sugar amid lockdown, sugar stocks are piling up in warehouses. And also they are unable to clear cane payment due to financial scarcity.
