Sugarcane farmers in Bagalkote call off protest

Sugarcane farmers in Bagalkote district called off their 53-day protest after state chief minister Basavaraj Bommai assured to hike crop price, leaders of the agitation said, reports Hindustan Times.

Farmers were agitating in district seeking an increase in the procurement price of sugarcane crop.

As per news report published in Hindustan Times, CM took the decision on Monday after meeting the Bagalkote district collector, who later shared the information with farmers.

Siddu Hulloli, assistant commissioner, after meeting, told the farmers that we have conveyed the details to the state government after discussing with the district collector and other officials. We have told you the CM’s decision on the price hike which has been conveyed to the mill owners in writing as well. The CM has assured that the issue will be resolved in the next seven days.

Farmer leader Veeranna Hanchinal said, “We have called off agitation as our agitation had reached the chief minister, who has taken full responsibility to resolve our issues.”
