Sugarcane farmers protest over Karnal sugar mill not running full to its capacity

Karnal: Sugarcane farmers have launched agitation at the Karnal Cooperative Sugar Mill on Wednesday over the mill not operating full to its capacity.

The farmers alleged that when Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated the sugar mill it was claimed that the capacity of the mill has been increased to 3,500 tonnes crushed per day (TCD) from 2,200 TCD but the mill is actually running with capacity of around 2,500 TCD.
The farmers also alleged that the mill is buying cane from the other districts.

As per a news report published in Tribuneindia.com, Aditi, MD, Karnal Cooperative Sugar Mill, said, “The mill is not running to its full capacity as the power from the plant was not being exported. The work to erect 132-KV lines for power supply is under way. However, the work is delayed due to some Right of Way (RoW) rules. We have already deposited the amount with the power corporation for the erection of lines.”
