Sugarcane farmers to benefit by improved system of roads   

Lucknow: The directions given by Hon’ble Chief minister, Yogi Adityanath were followed in letter and spirit by cane department and to maintain absolute transparency and create healthy competition in construction works of Sugarcane Development Department, it has been decided to provide the opportunity to participate in E-Tendering, for all the contractors registered in any State and Central Govt. department. The participation of contractors from the department other then Cane development & P.W.D- gave rise to healthy competition and ensured bidding in tenders at lowest possible rates. This also ensured the completion of construction works in minimum possible amount.

It is noteworthy, that this year E-Tendering systems has been implemented in Cane Development Department, previously contractors registered with Cane Department & P.W.D. were authorized to participate in the tenders. Complaints were being received, about adoption of mal-practices in registration of contractors in the department and a healthy competition was unlikely from the limited no of the contractors. With a view to maintain absolute transparency and create healthy competition in bidding it has been decided that all the contractors registered in any department of the State and Central Govt., will be eligible in equivalent category for bidding in E-Tenders floated for construction works by Cane Development Department.

Giving this information Commissioner Cane & Sugar, Shri Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy said that in financial year 2017-18 a saving of Rs.25.05 Crore has been made in constructions work due to wide spread competition in various tenders invited for various constructions works in the State by Cane Development Department. This saving enabled the department to bear Rs 4.87 crore cost increase due to hike in bitumin prices,without demanding any additional budget from the state government and along with this construction/repairing of 109 additional roads of more than 117 kilometer length were also made from these savings. Likewise in financial year 2018-19 a saving of rupees 12.20 crore has been made due to wide spread competition in various tenders initiated for construction of roads the saving of rupees 12.20 crore has been made, which enabled the department for construction/ repairing of 54 additional road of more than 36 km length.

He said that this increased competition will improve the roads in many other sugarcane areas and will facilitate sugarcane growers in supplying their sugarcane to sugar mills.
