Sugarcane farmers to hold protest for pending cane dues

Jalandhar: The sugarcane farmers from Phagwara have decided to launch a protest on May 28 under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Doaba) for the pending cane arrears.

According to the news report published in The Tribune, members of the union said, “Despite repeated letters and memorandum, the government is not helping us in the matter”.

“We will organize Dharna outside the sugar mills on various days. Farmers are facing financial distress as the mills have not cleared arrears” they further added.

As per news report, Kirpal Singh, a farmer from the Shahkot block, said the mills had failed to clear the payments for the past five months.
