Sugarcane farmers to intensify agitation for sugarcane SAP

Kurukshetra, Haryana: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) have decided to intensify their agitation in Haryana demanding a hike in the state-adviseded price (SAP) to Rs 450 per quintal as against the current rate of Rs 362 per quintal.

Gurnam Singh, president of the organisation said, “The crushing began last month but the government has not yet increased the cane price. Farmers have served a memorandum to the government but it has not taken any action over their demand. Now we have decided to intensify our protests.”

“As a part of our protests, sugarcane farmers will launch protests in front of the residences of MLAs on December 29, burn effigies of the government and submit memorandums if the government fails to increase prices by that time,” he added.
